Domaine de la Romanée Conti, Echézeaux 1995, tasted the 4th of September 2020.

Embarking on a vinous journey with the DRC Echézeaux 1995 is like stepping into a time capsule where grapes wield a formidable force. Very sturdy although too young right now. I was still greeted with an orchestra of tannins, and the sensation that this wine is on a quest to age gracefully for another decade or two. It’s not subtle; it’s a powerhouse in the making, with a lot of energy.

A wine like a rebellious teenager refusing to conform to the norms of aging. Yet, within its rebellious nature lies a balance of spices, promising a future that’s as intriguing as it is potent. This is not your typical mature wine; it’s a bold declaration of its unapologetic youth. Very nice after taste.

On this first day, I give it 92 points.

Fast forward to the fourth day of its uncorked adventure, and the wine reveals a slightly volatile acid edge. It remains a delightful companion even after having spent four days in an open bottle during a cross-country expedition from wiesbaden to Burgundy. Even the depot was lovely. It’s a testament to resilience, a vinous odyssey that refuses to be confined by the constraints of time and space. This wine promises to soar to a celestial 97 points in the next 20 years. The journey may be volatile, but the destination is nothing short of extraordinary.

I give it 94 points on this fourth day.
